"The ideal result after acupuncture is smooth, even flow. In Chinese medicine the heart is considered the emperor, and we have this idea of following the heart's path With Grace. When the heart feels safe and content, you feel in flow."
Steven Allan Booth comes from a lineage of healers. His father practised conventional Western medicine at the highest level: rural GP, flying doctor, dual specialties as an obstetrician and anaesthesiologist. His maternal grandfather was a senior St John's Ambulance trainer, adding massage and grounded know-how, and self-taught electro-acupuncture in the 1980s, which Steven was completely fascinated by.
Healing ran on both sides of the family.
He grew up in country Victoria with no direct spiritual inheritance, which is probably why he has spent his life building one, carefully, from evidence and experience. He began a double degree in Arts and Science at the University of Melbourne, majoring in advanced mathematics, physics, philosophy, and psychology, actively searching for something true.
Then a back injury at work brought him to acupuncture.
"I went from not being able to get around very easily to being able to touch my toes in one session. I thought, hey, there's something in this stuff."
That settled it.
What followed was more than a decade of Shiatsu bodywork and over seven thousand clinical hours, learning to read the body through touch before he ever picked up a needle. When people on his table began having emotional breakthroughs he didn't yet have the tools for, he trained as a transpersonal counsellor. That opened him to the work of Ken Wilber and Stan Grof, and handed him a psychological developmental model (Spiral Dynamics), along with a framework and mapping to understand non-ordinary states of consciousness.
Then came the full acupuncture degree, a Bachelor of Health Science through Endeavour College, after which he practised as a registered Dr of Chinese Medicine from 2015 to 2019. He spent half of that time working in a natural health clinic with a lifestyle-medicine approach to drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and the other half in a pregnancy and fertility focused clinic. Later, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at the University of Melbourne.
Alongside all of it: more than twenty-five years of martial and internal arts — Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Baguazhang, and Qigong — teaching since 2001, at times as many as seventeen classes a week, and accredited as a black belt level Instructor with the World Taiji Boxing Association (WTBA) in 2009.
Since 2011, Steven has worked at the frontier of Esoteric Acupuncture, the geometric, consciousness development-oriented system brought forward by Dr Mikio Sankey, with whom he trained directly. He has folded it together with Daoist energy medicine, TCM, and the transpersonal work with altered states that has become his signature, growing the practice into what he now calls the Lightbody Activation work, and into its teaching arm, Seven Stars Lightworker Academy.
He has taught at RMIT, presented at state and national Chinese medicine conferences, delivered wellbeing programs for the Australian Defence Forces (DST), and led activations from Byron Bay to Uluru. He is a founding member and trustee of the Aadii Mesh Foundation (the Advanced Agency for the Development of Integrative Intelligence), and has contributed to volunteer health projects in Cambodia, India, Indonesia and Ethiopia.
Steven lives and practises in Byron Bay, Australia, and works with people all over the world by phone and video.
He is a father of nine children, and a grandfather.
At its core, his work supports the innate intelligence of the body, its own movement toward wholeness, and what opens up when that movement is given room and a helping hand.
